Carbide grader blades are designed for high abrasion, low impact applications where maximum wear life is desired. These cutting edges consist of a tungsten carbide insert and overlay to increase the wear life of the blade serval times longer than conventional steel blades. These edges do come at a higher price than a steel edge; but when properly operated, the cost and time savings will give a great return on the investment.
Carbide grader blades look similar to standard steel grader blades, but they have a carbide insert brazed into the thickness of the edge and some offer an overlay along the bottom of the blade. Carbide is an effective way to increase the wear life of your blades and decrease the time and effort of changing blades. DMC Wear Parts offers our high-quality carbide grader blades with a variety of options. There are three main styles:
Carbide grader blades offer much better wear properties than conventional steel blades. That means operators have the following benefits:
“From an operators standpoint conditions are always changing and with the Borox blue steel you have the ability to adapt to different conditions by switching between different cutting-edge styles and thicknesses easily. From a shop foreman standpoint less down pressure to do the job means less wear and tear on the machine, which translates to savings in the long run!”

Carbide grader blades are an excellent cutting edge for low impact and high abrasion projects. The tungsten carbide abrasive resistant impregnation significantly extends the life of the blades when used in applications where the contact “face” receives the most wear. The curved double carbide blades also create better material flow on graders and plows. Carbide pick blades on the bottom of the edge can make ice penetration and snow removal simple and fast.
Carbide is a common shorthand to describe Tungsten Carbide; a metal composed of equal parts carbon and tungsten. Tungsten carbide is much denser than steel, enabling it to be used as a versatile and durable edge material.
